Role Description

United Social Ventures (UK Charity No. 1158935; UG NGO No. 4936) empowers young Ugandans to start effective and sustainable social start-ups. Through a combination of workshops and advisory services, we provide a framework for young people to design start-ups that are more impactful, financially sustainable, and scalable. 

This role is an exciting opportunity to join our small team and oversee the development of our systems to grow the scale of our work. Central to this will be managing relationships with venture members, associate trainers, and partners to ensure a growing schedule of workshops and coaching sessions. The role will also involve growing our annual national competition for social entrepreneurs, and other administrative tasks such as liaising with our accountants, ensuring metrics are collected from ventures, and writing reports for partners. 

Ideal candidates will be dedicated to the vision of United Social Ventures and capable of the organisation required to drive its growth. They will be energetic, proactive, a great communicator, and hardworking.

Key Details

Contract: 40 hours per week for 12 months. Extended based upon performance and funding.  

Other Benefits: 21 days annual leave, and Safeboda credit for transport to/from the office.

Location: Kololo, Kampala

Reports to: Team Leader

  • Curate our national venture membership network, ensure that we track their growth, recruit more venutres, and better support their development.
  • Develop relationships with partner universities and incubation hubs to generate more contracts
  • Manage the schedule of workshops and ensure the correct associate trainers are equipped for the right workshops.
  • Deputise for the Team Lead as required.
  • Delegate tasks on communications, ensuring the website and social media accounts are kept updated.
  • Help with surveying and compiling bids and reports, and other correspondence for partners.
  • Manage the annual competition for social entrepreneurship, including call for applications and an awards ceremony
  • Work with United’s accountants to ensure that all expenses are paid on time and recorded, including becoming a signatory to United’s accounts
  • Help to co-facilitate some workshops where a good match and needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Genuine identification with the mission of United Social Ventures
  • Creative and critical thinking which is adaptable to new situations
  • Can work energetically both independently and as a member of a team
  • An effective, professional communicator, both written and verbally
  • Computer literate (incl. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Bachelor’s degree

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous related experience in organisational operations and project/events management
  • Experience with database software
  • Experience in the non-profit or international development sector
