Role Description

Help us incubate youth-led social start-ups in Uganda by becoming our trustee for safeguarding. Work with our expert advisor to ensure our procedures with regards to safeguarding and child protection are followed, especially in Uganda.

We’re seeking someone with a proven knowledge and interest safeguarding. This is a great opportunity to be mentored by an advisor with decades of experience in safeguarding in the NHS, and really help a small and growing international charity.

Applications Reviewed on a Rolling Basis, so apply ASAP!

Responsibilities

  • Attend quarterly board meetings (these generally last 2 hours and are internet calls)
  • Participate in our Governance and Assurance Committee meetings. (Approx. 1 hour/month)
  • Be our Safeguarding Official, responsible for writing a piece for the annual report, speaking to partners about our safeguarding arrangements
  • Handle any reported incidence of abuse appropriately.
  • Keep abreast of safeguarding changes in policy and practice
  • Join other trustees in committing to United’s ‘Give or Get’ policy of either giving or fundraising for the charity.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to dedicate at least 2 hours a week to United
  • Basic knowledge of safeguarding
  • Have/Will get a police check

Desirable Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a safeguarding officer
  • Based in Uganda
