The Problem

More than 1 million women are exposed to gender based violence every year in Uganda. The most common cases are in form of sexual and physical assault and they are on the rise despite the presence of laws and policies to protect victims and survivors.

The Product

SafeBangle is a wearable alarm disguised as a bangle for women or a belt for men so as not to be easily identified by a third party. It has a panic button that makes a loud noise and alerts close friends or relatives once pressed by the person wearing it in case of an attack.

It can also be fitted with a GPS locator through which the person can be located.

The Impact

The SafeBangle should reduce the frequency of GBV, help wearers to feel safer, and support law enforcement to successfully prosecute cases of GBV with much-needed evidence.

The Future

SafeBangle is currently creating a 4th iteration of its prototype. It hopes to launch on the marketplace by the end of 2020.

There are plans to create more varieties to meet different needs of user segments.
