12 Week Social Design
Create a New Social Venture
Work in a team with 2-3 Ugandan students & be guided by United in Design Thinking & Lean Start-up methodologies to co-found a new social venture. The most impactful way to spend your summer vacation!
12th June – 4th September 2019
Work with the same team, 9 to 5, as you go through the steps to form a new organisation. Each week, United will run a training introducing new themes and tools to be completed. Each team will also have at least one tutorial with a United tutor each week, usually on a Thursday or Friday to focus on the particular needs of your venture.
By the end of your time in Uganda, you’ll have made some true friends, learnt a huge amount about global social entrepreneurship, and have a fledgling venture which will have a sustainable impact on Uganda’s development.
Rest & Relaxation
Leave some afternoons open for rest and relaxation. Socials around Kampala will be organised every evening – such as going to an acoustic music night, pub quiz, or learning how to cook traditional Ugandan dishes. On weekends, we’ll help you arrange activities exploring Uganda.
One of the coolest things about a United exchange is that the volunteering isn’t just in Uganda. In fact, you can continue to volunteer on a venture for years later. Especially when you have been involved in the founding of the venture.
We hope that all volunteers will commit to remotely volunteering for at least 6 months after their trip. However, what this will entail depends a lot upon the relationship with the venture, its needs, and your time to give.
After submitting your form below we’ll be in contact to arrange an informal Skype interview. Upon acceptance to the exchange program, the next steps are:
Sign a Volunteer’s Agreement & Pay the Deposit (£450 / $700)
Arrange Vaccinations, Book Flights, & Get Travel Insurance
Apply for a Ugandan Visa Online
Participate in 3 Pre-Departure Training Calls
Make Final Payment (£1,200 / $1,500) by 1st June
We require volunteers to fundraise for trips to cover the costs of running them. We are a charity, not a commercial company making profits from volunteers.
(£2,800 / $3,400 Total Estimated Cost - incl. flights, visa, inoculations, insurance, living costs, and United fundraising)
Fundraising amount INCLUDES:
